AUTHOR'S NOTE

When I was a kid, my parents always made sure there were lots of books in the house. I used to read under the covers with a flashlight when I was supposed to be asleep. Books are like magic carpets that whisked me away to other times and places. They can be wonderful company, too. When I began writing books, my greatest wish was that my stories might bring some excitement and companionship to young readers. If they also helped spark an interest in history, then even better!
